Dear Friends of NEIP,
It has been a long journey since our start in 2006, and much has been accomplished. Starting out as two men and an idea, and developing over the next couple of years, NEIP was able to assist in so many ways to so many people and we feel blessed to have had this opportunity.
We have been privileged over the past couple of years to have been able to provide: Health Care Packs to every household in an entire village of 800 people, send children to receive the surgeries needed for their Cleft Palate/Lip surgeries and see their lives transformed. We have been able to be a part of helping women earn a supplement income through the making of smaller handicrafts, send women for silk weaving training, as well as help many men get started in pig rearing. NEIP has also been able to send over 50 children to school, whose parents could not afford to send them.
Our biggest challenge was helping to provide a water pump system which would pump water in to a village, thus providing water to the entire village of nearly 900 people. As of March of this year, we are pleased to announce that this particular project has been completed. A water pump system was installed which will pump clean water from a natural spring located down the mountain-side. This will pump up to the village where they can draw from without having to hike down the mountain-side every day for water. It was such a joy to see this project completed, and hear the many stories from people on how their lives will be impacted by having running water to their village now. There were many other smaller things we were privileged to be a part of while working in North East India, that we would not have the time or space to get them all down.
Though we feel we have accomplished much over the past few years, NEIP has been forced to make some difficult decisions over the past couple of weeks. It has been determined that given a variety of reasons that have all come together over the past 12 months, it is time to close our doors.
Effective on May 1st, 2010, North East India Project will be closing its doors. This decision has not come lightly, and has been made after much prayer and consideration. We are at a crossroads this year and simply do not have the manpower or financial backing, (in part due to these hard economic times in the States), to justify moving forward as a productive organization.
All that we have done, we would never have been able to do, had it not been for the sacrificial support of so many of you through the years. We thank you all for your time spent volunteering with us. We thank you all for your sacrificial financial support, changing the lives of so many people. We thank you all for your constant prayers for us as we journeyed through so much over these past years. Most of all, we give thanks to God for giving us the opportunity to be part of so many peoples lives.
Onward and upward,
Jason K Powers
President, North East India Project
